Roll Away Would’ve Done Better in a Kula World – Arcade-ological Discoveries

I’m back after three and a half months, with a video that took me forever to make and even killed the hard drive it was supposed to be stored on! Here’s the video, and the artwork I made on the side during its production!

Wylers’ All Hallows V-VIII

V – 2007

VI – 2010

VII – 2013

VIII – 2016

Uploaded October 19, 25, 28, and 31, 2025.

Yes, this is how long the new video took to make. I still had yet to post the other four entries of the Wylers’ All Hallows series. That’s casting and animation for you!

V – 2007 (Mod girl, the other twin, Yankee, and baseball)
When Nicole was three, going on four years old, her parents and older sisters realized she wasn’t developing socially at the typical rate. She hardly ever said more than a few words at a time, was easily overstimulated by loud noises, and preferred to play with her plushes and baby sister, Wendy, than with kids her age. After taking her to a psychologist, the Wylers learned she was autistic. The other sisters were soon tested, with the twins and Wendy being found neurotypical, and Dolly being found to also be autistic.

Dolly, as a socially awkward teenager, precocious as a fashion designer but stunted in her social skills, felt liberated by the diagnosis, and wanted to embrace her quirkiness. She decided to be a mod girl for All Hallows’, making white go-go boots and a dress with a caramel apple pattern in a 1960s style. Stella Svampsson, diagnosed autistic herself years before and inspired by her bestie’s newfound confidence, talked Dolly into making a similar outfit, with a teal hair ribbon and earrings, changed from Dolly’s red to fit her favored color scheme.

Roz and Maddie, not knowing what to be for All Hallows’, decided to be each other. Roz stuffed a pillow in her sweater to look plus-sized like Maddie, and Maddie had to wear mascara, for her eyelashes to look as thick as Roz’s. Finally, Nicole, just discovering her love of baseball, dressed as a New Pork Yankee, and baby Wendy dressed as a baseball.

When Dong-hoon and Judith gathered their daughters in front of the fence for this fifth edition of their photo, an electrical fire broke out in one of the restaurants in downtown Grunvale. An Albaneigh FD truck came down Brooks Drive to get to town, blaring its sirens as it passed the Wylers’ house. The noise severely startled the noise-sensitive Nicole, who was left in tears from the overstimulation. Roz, Maddie, and Wendy could only look on in confusion as Dolly tried to console Nicole.

VI – 2010 (Rosalina, Heinz Doofenschmirtz, Dee Dee, Bubbles, and Maggie Pesky)
Dolly’s time wearing braces forced her to eat healthier, and by her junior year of high school, she had slimmed down considerably from her elementary and middle school days. During this time, the sisters all got hooked on the Super Mario Galaxy games. Partially to spite her peers at Reitherman High that fat-shamed her by askingif she was going to be ‘the fat star’ (the Hungry Luma) for All Hallows’, Dolly dressed as Rosalina, complete with a Luma plush she’d sewn.

Dolly had outgrown trick-or-treating by her junior year; she stayed home to hand out candy. She still bought caramel-covered acorns and chocolate-dipped strawberries for herself, though. After all, who can resist sweets on All Hallows’?

With Phineas and Ferb being a huge show of the time, all the costumes of the title characters were sold out before Dong-hoon and Judith could get their hands on them. The closest they could find was a single Doofenschmirtz costume, which Roz called dibs on. Maddie, wanting to at least fit a theme of ‘villain from boy genius cartoon’ with her twin, decided to be Dee Dee from Dexter’s Laboratory. She got teased at school for wearing her costume, as many thought she was too old to dress as a ballerina at eleven, almost twelve years old. She wasn’t bothered; she was happy just to fit the aforementioned theme.

Nicole had met Murphy Grubenstein and Charlotte Roth in kindergarten the year before; all of them had a shared love of The Powerpuff Girls, which all of them had DVDs of at home, and would watch together at playdates. Now in first grade, they decided for All Hallows’ to be the trio, with Murphy as Blossom, Charlotte as Buttercup, and Nicole as Bubbles. The decision of who to be who was easy for all of them, as their hair colors loosely matched the characters.

Roz and Maddie had several VHS tapes saved of airings of The Buzz on Maggie, having been fans of the show in second grade. Wendy, an infant when the show aired, now watched her sister’s old tapes as a kindergartener, and became a fan herself, deciding to be the show’s title character for All Hallows’. She even had her hair dyed pink for her costume.

None of Wendy’s classmates or teachers knew who or what she was supposed to be, as The Buzz on Maggie had long faded from what little public consciousness it had in its day.

VII – 2013 (1980s costume, Dipper and Mabel Pines, Coco Bandicoot, and creepy doll)
The seventh edition of this series of photos of the sisters was effectively the final hurrah for the fence of 2687 Brooks Drive, which, by 2013, had deteriorated into being a buffet for termites and silverfish, both wild and ine. The fence would be torn down the next spring.

The perameline Rose family had moved into the neighborhood in August, to the excitement of ten-year-old Nicole, who quickly developed a crush on their son, Murray. She was excited further when she found out he was enrolled at Ward Kimball Elementary, in the same fourth grade class as her.

Nicole decided to be Coco Bandicoot for All Hallows’. Her parents and the Roses were okay with the costume, as long as she agreed not to dye her fur orange or wear a fake snout.

Gravity Falls was of course a big show in 2013, that Roz and Maddie, as twins like Dipper and Mabel, quickly got hooked on. Most of the clothes for their costumes were quite easily bought at the store, with the exception of the shooting star sweater for Maddie, which Dolly knitted alongside the turtleneck for her own costume.

Dolly and Stella, now in their second year of cosmetology school, were frequent patrons of a frozen yogurt shop, at which an Iwerks U student, Gregory Voronov, worked as he went for his master’s degree. Greg invited both sows to a 1980s-themed party at Iwerks, to which they both enthusiastically accepted, as both were fans of fashion of the era and wanted an opportunity to dress in the attire without getting strange looks.

It was while slow-dancing together at the party to Belinda Carlisle’s “I Get Weak”, that Dolly and Greg realized they had deeper feelings for each other… something more than a friendship brewing.

Oh, and Wendy dressed as a creepy doll. Her costume freaked out many students and even teachers at Ollie Johnston Elementary, to the point where she was considered a distraction and sent home.

VIII – 2016/the present day (Princess Daisy, Luigi, Bill Cipher, Mike Wazowski, Bubbles, and 1960s pop singer)
The present day in OTOG canon. By this point, Wendy’s full friend group had been formed and named the ‘Oddball Tetrad’, Nicole started dating Holt Klug in addition to Murray Rose, Roz and Maddie moved into that run-down strip mall space, and most significantly to this art series, Dolly, the sow you watched grow from a toddler to an adult throughout the course of these photos, married to Gregory Voronov, and took on his name as the second part of her newly-hyphenated surname.

Mephit-Away Deodorizing Mints logo

Uploaded to Bluesky November 11, 2025.

And here’s a flex of my logo-making skills! This is for a product that exists in the Grunvaliverse; flavored mints that, when ingested, cause the consumer to let out a fart that rids them of body odor, especially skunk smell. These mints have been around in-universe since 1958, and the logo itself, depicting a beatnik mephitine, has mostly only seen color and font alterations since.

And before you ask, because some people had to be those people, NO, THIS IS NOT FETISH ART. IT IS TOILET HUMOR. Who the fuck even gets horny for farts anyway?!

Cotton Candy, So Undignified!

Uploaded to Bluesky November 22, 2025.

The result of me deciding to flex my skills at making a digital painting (keyword *painting*, not just a cartoon), by depicting Gilda reacting with disgust at every raccoon’s least favorite food. The idea behind this artwork was, painted portraits usually depict their subjects in a solemn, dignified manner. So why not flip that idea on its head, and go humorous and undignified?

Also, yes, I thought up another formal outfit for Gilda. Since this is an artwork in the style of a formal painting, I decided to put her in formal wear, inspired by the 1940s. Reminder, Gilda canonically hates the victory rolls hairstyle, as she thinks it looks ridiculous. Subjecting her to cotton candy is torture enough for her, I say.

This was a fun artwork to make. Took ten and a half hours and nearly 9000 strokes.

Her Days of Silence are Be-Hynde Her

Uploaded to Bluesky November 26, 2025.

This was the artwork I drew to announce I had hired a voice actress to voice Margo Hynde. Namely, an Insta user who goes by the mononym ‘Catsi’. I was like two weeks into my search for a voice actress for Margo with no results, and almost decided to make her mute for the video. But then, by a stroke of luck, I found Catsi, a cosplayer and aspiring actress who was offering voice commissions through Ko-fi. When I listened to her work, I knew she’d be a great fit. And, well, der Rest ist Geschichte.

Dolly Wyler-Voronov’s Self Caricature

Uploaded to Bluesky November 30, 2025.

I’ve drawn how I imagine Gilda and Margo drawing before, now I drew Dolly in what I imagine her own style to be. As you may be able to tell, I imagine she likes the work of Al Hirschfeld.

Nightfall at Castle Rock

Uploaded to Bluesky December 15, 2025.

Well, this might be one of the most upsetting celebrity deaths I’ve seen hit the news in my life. Rob Reiner, one of the greatest film directors of the 1980s and 1990s, murdered by his own son at the age of 78. I actually almost vomited when I heard the news, I’m not kidding. It was Reiner’s film The Sure Thing (1985 film starring John Cusack and Daphne Zuniga) that was one of the films I watched as a budding film enthusiast in middle school (circa 2011), and just the month before Reiner’s death, I watched Misery, the film that won Kathy Bates her Oscar. And to hear Reiner not just died, but was murdered, by his own son, along with his wife (the murderer’s mother)… how fucking horrifying.

I hope Nick is shown no mercy when he is sentenced, for he showed none to his parents. And quite frankly, if reports of Nick’s behavior through the years are to be believed, he should’ve been sent to prison a long time ago.

Roy the Gamer Kid

Uploaded to Bluesky December 25, 2025.

An artwork I made as part of a Secret Santa exchange in the Discord server of EpicFrick, a friend of mine, featuring Roy, one of the OCs of SkippySkwovet/SleepyForecast. I went for a cheesy aesthetic like a 1980s-early 1990s video game commercial, with Roy himself somewhat anachronistically playing Pokémon FireRed on a handheld resembling the Analogue Pocket.

I got an artwork of Wendy from a user named TrickyFox41 as part of the same exchange.

Peachy Apples

Uploaded to Bluesky January 1, 2026.

During production of the Roll Away video, I decided to retcon Margo’s design so that she has rosy cheeks like Gilda, albeit not as strong a flush. It gives her cheeks more dimension and she looks cuter this way. Also, rabbits have chubby cheeks, so why not emphasize it?

This is a change to the color artwork only; the flush of Margo’s cheeks is the same as the interiors of her ears, which are shown as pure white in my black-and-white comics.

Caprine Annie Torres

Uploaded to Bluesky January 22, 2026.

I’ve drawn AnimationFan15’s Charlotte Walker as a pteropine twice before; this time, I decided to mix it up and draw another OC of his, Annie Torres, who, keeping with a ficlet I wrote back in the day, is depicted as a caprine here. Specifically, an Iberian ibex (because Spanish last name) with albinism (Annie is depicted with snow-white skin). Don’t worry about her posing on a steep mountainside; ibexes are sure-footed enough to scale walls steeper than many can.

Small production (and biological) detail; you can tell how old an ibex is by how many segments their horns have. Annie is supposed to be 10 years old, so I drew this caprine version of her with ten segments to each horn.

Jessica Grime – Decades Template

Uploaded to Bluesky January 27, 2026.

Round seven of these! This time with a character I’d not drawn since 2023, but will be making her debut at last in the eighth chronological chapter of OTOG, currently codenamed Project Baer (named for Ralph Baer, inventor of the Magnavox Odyssey).

As for this artwork, since Jessica is supposed to be in her early forties, I decided to make her outfits somewhat old-fashioned for the decades depicted, such as having her depicted with victory rolls (a 1940s hairstyle) for the 1950s outfit, and a Geena Davis-esque perm for the 1990s outfit. For the 1960s outfit, I brought back the ‘holding an object like it’s a cigarette’ joke from Dolly’s version of this template, this time with pretzels instead of a carrot.

Also, as a bit of worldbuilding, and keeping in mind the large German/Gerbilman-speaking population of the Colors, the ACTA sign Jessica’s holding has text in English, German, Spanish, and French, reading ‘NO SMOKING’, or some variant of it, in all four languages. For those of you who don’t remember the 2000s, smoking bans started taking off in earnest in that decade. Hence why I chose to depict a ‘NO SMOKING’ sign here.

Also, for those of you who were gonna ask, ACTA stands for ‘Albaneigh County Transit Authority’. It’s the company Jessica works for as a bus driver.

Are We Gonna Have to Shutter Up?

Uploaded to Bluesky January 31, 2026.

I… felt like drawing the Ketcham quints again, many of them for the first time since 2023. For those of you who don’t remember, Ellen is the perky girly-girl of the five, who likes to work in the kitchen and is the only one among them who chose home ec as an elective instead of shop. Much like her father Shaun, who, among his children, has the strongest father-child bond with her.

Also, I’m sure I’ve said this before, but when you picture Ellen talking, picture Marieve Herington’s performance as Tilly Green, because that’s who I imagine she sounds like.

And that’s all for now. Chapter VIII/Project Baer coming soon, as is my next video. And I’ll show both here when they’re uploaded. But until that time, take care, stay safe, be good to each other, reject the billionaires’ attempts to bring the world down… and have a good one.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 Reviewed – My Little Retrospective: Ranking is Magic (MLPFIM 15th Anniversary)

One of the defining shows of its time celebrates its 15th anniversary this month, and of course I made a video to mark the occasion. Here’s the blog post promoting it, and the artwork I’ve made around the time of its recording and editing!

15 years ago, a certain cartoon about technicolor equines made the world 20% cooler. Did the show start out strong? Adler has made their landing to be the judge of that.

Nicole Wyler – Decades Template

Uploaded to Bluesky September 7, 2025.

So, first things first, I changed the header text from Englishman’s Teeth to Babyteeth, in the hopes that more people will want to do this meme if the text is more legible.

Second, these outfits were fun to think up. I’ve considered Nicole to be a perfect balance of all the archetypes the Oddball Tetrad represent; as nerdy as she is cool, as much a girly-girl as she is a tomboy. I think the 1990s one here is the one that shows this best, as well as the best of these six; a nerdy-looking argyle sweater, blue jeans fitting of a tomboy, a cool-looking permed ponytail, and giant gold hoop earrings for a touch of femininity. I may just decide to it one of Nicole’s canonical outfits, it fits her that well.

The 1960s outfit came out well, too. I can see her wearing it to any date at Marilyn Springsteen’s; Holt would appreciate her making an effort to look nice, and Murray would think her outfit is fun and quirky.

Also, about the decorations on Nicole’s tail, the ribbon in the 1950s one and the pearls in the 1980s one. Tail decorations are an aspect of Grunvaliverse fashion… mostly a dated one, by the present day more commonly found at formal events than in everyday life. They’re not something I just came up with for this piece; I’ve a few times before, drawn Nicole wearing butterfly-shaped tail decs at her bat mitzvah.

1-Bit Oddball Tetrad

Uploaded to Bluesky October 4, 2025.

I saw a pixel art jam going on, in which the challenge was to submit a 1-bit pixel art with the theme of ‘balance’. So I decided to submit to it. The first thing my mind jumped to is how the Oddball Tetrad’s personalities, being so varied, balance each other out, making for fun interactions and an overall healthy friendship. I consider nerds and cool kids to be opposites, and tomboys and girly-girls to be opposites. Hence why Gilda and Wendy, and Margo and April are on opposite sides here.

The artwork is essentially the portraits of the Tetrad from the 1980s panel of their Decades AU memes, scaled down to fit within the challenge parameters, and with said portraits on the opposite side of the character whose personality is the opposite of theirs. I used said outfits, as the 1-bit restriction brought to mind 1980s Mac computers for me.

BTW, if all goes well, and my understanding is correct, this artwork should be appearing on a Game Boy ROM. So, uh… be on the lookout for that.

Wylers’ All Hallows’ I-IV

I – 1995

II – 1998

III – 2001

IV – 2004

Uploaded October 2, 5, 11, and 15, 2025.

Kind of cheating this one, since the last two were uploaded after the video’s premiere, but honestly, when else am I gonna get to post these? Aside from maybe a dedicated post of all eight planned entries to this series. Anyways, the first half of the Wyler sisters’ All Hallows’ photos in front of the fence of 2687 Brooks Drive, aka the ones taken before Wendy was born. These four artworks were my 100th art post to Newgrounds.

I – 1995 (Strawberry Shortcake)
All Hallows’ Eve is a big holiday for the Wylers. It’s all the sisters’ favorite holiday, for the costumes and the candy and the bonding they get to do with their friends. And their parents, Phil Dong-Hoon and Judith Wyler, have taken a photo of them in their costumes, in front of the fence in their front yard on All Hallows’ every three years since 1995, when two-year-old Dolly, a few months into walking on her own, dressed as Strawberry Shortcake. That costume was chosen for her, as they knew Dolly loved strawberries.

II – 1998 (‘La Fraise Noir’)
In 1998, with Roz and Maddie on the way in, the Wylers had their fence painted a classic white… and a five-year-old Dolly had her face painted white, after being entertained enough by mimes she saw on the streets of Albaneigh, to want to be one for All Hallows’. Dolly would perform as a mime for talent shows many times after, under the stage name ‘La Fraise Noir’, a nod to mimes being associated with French culture, her strawberry aesthetic, and her French background.

III – 2001 (Amy Rose and Dark Chao)
In 2001, Phil-ssi, seeing a Sega Dreamcast being sold for cheap at Griswold’s after the console’s recent discontinuation, decided to buy the system as his daughters’ first video game console. Along with the system, he bought both of the Sonic Adventure games.

Seven-year-old Dolly quickly took to Amy Rose as her favorite character, and decided to take up seamstressing just so she could make any Amy costume for All Hallows’. Between making the Amy costume, she also made dark Chao outfits for her two-year-old sisters, Roz and Maddie, knowing the dark Chao to be both of their favorites.

Dolly also designed her candy basket to resemble the Piko Piko hammer. The handle screwed off to reveal the compartment for the candy. The ‘hammer’ got so heavy during trick-or-treating, that Dolly’s suilline friend, Stella Svampsson, had to help her carry it.

IV – 2004 (Vampire, rice sack, toum bottle, and koala)
In 2004, when Dolly decided she wanted to be a vampire (a strawberry-eating variety) for All Hallows’, Roz and Maddie talked her into making costumes of a potato sack and a mayonnaise bottle, respectively. However, as she would learn the hard way, this was a ruse.

Roz actually wanted to be a sack of rice, and Maddie wanted to be a bottle of toum. They made these details to their costumes behind her back, not revealing them to her until it was time for this photo. Dolly, as shown in the photo, was bemused by the fact that she played a role in getting herself trolled.

As for the costume of the 14-month-old Nicole, the Wylers found that all the teddy bear costumes were sold out at the store, so they settled on a koala costume. This worked out, as Nicole, as a fan of Aussie culture, preferred koalas over bears.

And now it is time for Adler to fly off. Chapter VII hopefully coming soon. Until next time, take care, stay safe, be good to each other, reject the billionaires’ attempts to bring the world down… and have a good one.

Dolly Wyler-Voronov – Decades AU Template

Uploaded to Bluesky June 13, 2025.

With the Tetrad having their turns in this series, it’s now time for some of the supporting characters to get their turn. And who better to get said turn than Wendy’s fashionista goofball of a sister, Gwendolyn Tangerine Wyler-Voronov?

I have this idea that Dolly likes designing ensembles inspired by fruit. And of course, as strawberries are her favorite kind of fruit (I even kind of designed her with strawberries in mind to begin with, with her association with the color red, and her freckled cheeks), she likes designing strawberry-themed ensembles for herself. This is reflected in the 1950s outfit, with the yellow polka dots (again, like seeds) in her dress and hat, and the green lace trim (like leaves) on her dress and gloves. And of course, because 1950s, she needed to have arched eyebrows, winged eyeliner, pearls, and a red lip. The latter two of which are part of her usual attire anyway.

The 1960s one is probably my favorite; even being represented in a decade where gloves were going out of style, their appearance here gives the outfit a cute, feminine touch. Also, yes, that carrot is meant to resemble a cigarette. Vintage style, not vintage values.

The 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s outfits were respectively inspired by Dianne Feinstein, Amy Irving, and Mayim Bialik. Dolly is Jewish, after all, so I imagine she’d look up to other Jewish females like her for inspiration. As for the props, they’re copyright-safe representations of, respectively, an LP of Rush’s Hemispheres, the packaging of a McDLT, and a bottle of Crystal Pepsi.

And finally, in a close second favorite to the 1960s panel, there’s the 2000s one. The outfit itself is no different from her usual attire, except for her not wearing lipstick or having her hair styled. But the panel itself is a reference to the HeadOn ads of the decade. Not gonna lie, as annoying as those ads were, it was nostalgic revisiting them as a reference for the artwork.

Overall, I love how it turned out. And I can’t wait to show off some more supporting characters in this series.

Oh, and before I move on. Any time I depict Dolly speaking in my comics, picture Liliana Mumy’s voice. She’s the voice of Leni from The Loud House; I’ve always pictured the voice as fitting for Dolly as well. Coincidentally, both characters are goofy fashionistas that are also the elder sister of one of the main characters.

1960s Pop Group Tetrad v3.0

Gilda Grime

Wendy Wyler

April Lowry

Margo Hynde

Uploaded July 5, 2025.

Yeah, redesigned these outfits again. Both to make them more unique to each character, and to make them look more convincingly 1960s.

In terms of making them more unique (although still following the same template), I’ve redrawn their beehives to integrate elements of their casual hairstyles; Gilda’s being somewhat messy, Wendy’s having loose hairs, April’s having spirals similar to her tail, and Margo’s having those Greg Heffley-esque ‘wimpy sprigs’ (as the making-of book of the 2010 film adaptation called them). Also, because 90+ hours of Balatro had managed to strike inspiration into my work, their dresses now bear the symbols of card suits. Diamonds for Gilda as a reference to raccoons’ fascination with… everything, spades for Wendy as a reference to her emo aesthetic, hearts for April as a reference to her feminine personality (as well as the fact she’s a lesbian, and I still intend to write her as such, SUCK IT, GOP!), and clubs for Margo as a reference to her being a tomboy and loving submarine sandwiches.

As for making the 1960s aesthetic more prominent, I’ve ditched their lipstick in favor of heavier eye makeup (since 1960s makeup was more about the eyes than the lips), and changed their earrings to period-appropriate hoops. Additionally, the Tetrad’s assets also have embossing on them to resemble the shadows of cels, and ‘StormArts’ is written in Milton Glaser’s Babyteeth (the font that inspired Englishman’s Teeth).

And for those wondering, since I brought up Balatro as an inspiration for these redesigns. If the Tetrad were jokers, their effect would be allowing for the ability to make flushes with four of their respective suit, and said flush multiplying the multiplier by 2. Think a slightly weaker Four Fingers, with the multiplier-doubling as a tradeoff. That doesn’t sound like something that’d break the game too much, does it?

And that’s all for now. Chapter VII coming soon (hopefully, it’s supposed to be only four pages), as is my next video. And I’ll show both here when they’re uploaded. But until that time, take care, stay safe, be good to each other, reject Trump’s attempts to bring the world down… and have a good one.

Kiff Tries to Sue the Internet – An Analysis of ‘Hungee Squirrel’

I’ve decided for myself that, to keep myself on a schedule to justify paying for this website’s domain, I should make a post to it whenever I upload a video, instead of radio silence until I eventually make a post or when an OTOG chapter is completed. So, as the start of this… better habit, here’s my post reminding y’all that I have a new video out. Also, some artwork I made during the time the video was in production.

…let’s start with two I forgot to post last time, mainly because they’re non-OTOG art and I didn’t feel them to be a priority. Well, they’re priority now, for anyone that wants to see what I do with other characters.

The Calamity Trio – Chrono Trigger style

Uploaded February 26, 2025.

After watching a video by Brandon James Greer in which he drew the cast of Final Fantasy VII in the pixel art style of Chrono Trigger (one of the best RPGs, BTW), I felt inspired to try my own hand at the style, with the cast of Amphibia. I’m not that big a fan of the show, but I have friends who are. And I thought they’d appreciate me giving the show some artwork that Marcy Wu would especially get a kick out of.

Keeping with the SNES aesthetic, the colors you see here are all part of the console’s palette, and the canvas size of 512x448px is the same as the interlaced resolution of the system.

Westernized Gengar

Uploaded March 23, 2025.

A reimagining of the Pokémon Gengar, speculating what they might have looked like if the games were developed by a Western studio, or reskinned for Western release. I took inspiration from pillows and teddy bears. Don’t know if I’ll do more of these Westernized Pokémon designs, but this one was fun to do.

Now with those latecomers out of the way, let’s get to the two pieces that were made during production of the above-posted video.

April Lowry – Decades AU Template

Uploaded April 30, 2025. Like I was gonna go the entire month of April without drawing… well, the mephitine called April.

I went for a different approach here, actually aiming to draw April engaging with the culture of the decades she’s depicted in the styles of, than simply posing against backgrounds of aesthetics of the decades. The artwork proved the most popular of the series by far on BlueSky, with over 20 likes (I usually get no more than like five on any of my artworks). I am planning on extending this series to some of my side-characters, so be on the lookout for those.

Also, as you can imagine, 1970s April was the most fun to draw. I actually imagine April being a pretty unhinged character, and drawing her holding a lawn dart gave me a perfect opportunity to do so.

Green Girls’ Suit Swap

Uploaded May 24, 2025.

The 1940s and 1980s are both known as the decades of the shoulder pads. Gilda Grime is known for wearing a green 1980s-style suit on special occasions, and Nicole Wyler has been known to wear a 1940s-style suit, also in green. So what better idea than having these shoulder pad- and green-loving autistics swap suits?

…yeah, no. They don’t like how they look on them. Gilda thinks victory rolls look more silly than stylish, and Nicole thinks the perm and makeup make her look like a clown. But hey, it’s fun for the rest of us to see them in outfits they feel look embarrassing on them.

And that’s all for now. Chapter VI is coming soon, as is my next video. And I’ll show both here when they’re uploaded… after which I will be free from copying and pasting the outro of last blog post. But until that time, take care, stay safe, be good to each other, reject Trump’s attempts to bring the world down… and have a good one.

Stormy’s Art Roundup – Fall 2024 and Winter 2024/25

I need to work on updating this blog of mine more. Like with the last big break, much of my productivity went to my YouTube, and in between all that, I had a nasty cold and one of my hard drives failed on me (that was why Arcade-ological Discoveries episode 2 took so long, BTW), and my uncle’s kids, my much-younger cousins, came to visit where I live (which, combined with ArcDisc 2’s production troubles, is why the Strange Magic review took so long… they’re tiring to be around, and I didn’t want to swear around them). So before the artwork, let me cross-promote the YouTube channel, for any potential clients that wish to hire me as a video editor or a thumbnail designer!

Sonic Underground Should Stay Buried – An Analysis of the Blue Blur’s Worst Show

Uploaded November 23, 2024. When you DiC around with the Sonic license, you find out.

This is my first video to exceed a viewcount of 2000 and a runtime of 30 minutes; in fact, in the case of the latter, it’s so close to 40 that I consider it to be a 40-minute video, and in the case of the former, it’s close to 3000 views at the time of this blog post. My longtime internet friend Alex Ramirez, also known as A-Ram and LoudToon99, helped me with the script to this video, to make sure what I said about the Sonic franchise’s history was accurate.

As someone who’s been editing for a while now, picking apart this show’s animation and editing errors was fun. Weird thing is, this is a show that, in stills, doesn’t look that bad. Not great, but not terrible. It’s when you actually see it move for more than a few seconds, when it falls apart, and you’re reminded this is DiC’s show. Also the writing on this thing is baffling. It’s a good thing that DiC isn’t around anymore.

WildSnake Deserves Garter Attention – Arcade-ological Discoveries

Uploaded January 26, 2025. It played dead, but it never bled. Instead it lay still in the SNES library, all boxed up and waiting to become an Arcade-ological Discovery.

Arcade-ological Discoveries episodes take less time to edit than the big reviews, and because of that, I thought this video was going to be an easy production. And then the hard drive failure happened, and many of my videos and assets, including the poses for my Grunvalified self, were among those affected. That’s why the mouth shapes here look different than in my previous videos; I ended up having to make 24 new files to replace what was lost. I was planning on retiring those poses anyway (and the next video shows the redesign), but still. So annoying.

As shown by the StormArts logo in the video, this was my first upload after hitting 100 subscribers on YouTube.

Strange Magic is an Affront to Morality – An Analysis of George Lucas’ Worst Film

Uploaded March 29, 2025. 🎵 Eee-evil movie! 🎵

Introducing the redesign to my Grunvalified self alluded to above, this is my longest video to date, clocking in at 40 minutes, 58 seconds, and 19/30 frames. Literally 41 frames away from an even 41 minutes.

Seriously, who’s idea was it to let the ‘I don’t like sand’ guy come up with a love story?

And now to the standalone artwork I made during the period of making these videos!

Scarecrow Margo

Uploaded October 8, 2024 (aka Spooky season). Why is she dressed as a scarecrow when she has a pet seagull? Well, it’s simple really… she’s dressed as a scarecrow. Not a scareseagull. And also Buffett’s not afraid of scarecrows.

Roaching for the Sky

Uploaded November 17, 2024. One of the biggest things that’s happened since the last Art Roundup, is the rise of the Twitter alternative Bluesky, which many former Twitter users have flocked to since Donald Trump’s re-election. For me and many others in the social media circle I’m in, though, our jumping-off point was even earlier; it was the changes to the block function.

My art is doing better on Bluesky than it ever did on Twitter; thanks to being added to ‘starter packs’ (lists of people on Bluesky that allow users to mass-follow), I managed to hit 100 followers within weeks of the beginning of the X-odus (the only way by which I will ever call Twitter ‘X’). And I drew this artwork of the Tetrad in their formal/1980s business attire to celebrate. This is set at a photo studio other than Zapruder’s; it’s a cheaper place with washed-out backdrops and a cockroach infestation… which April is freaking out over, and in her fear, has accidentally punched Gilda in the nose, leading to Wendy getting Mike Wazowski’d.

And speaking of Bluesky follower milestones…

Another Group Photo? Oh, Brother!

Uploaded November 29, 2024.

This one I drew after hitting 200 followers on the app! In this one, they got April’s sibling Auggie into vintage business attire, in the hopes of improving their luck in taking a group photo together.

This was my first time drawing Auggie in a while. Reminder that they’re genderfluid; while it’s not wrong to refer to them as August, by he/him pronouns or as April’s brother, and I do plan to have them referred to by both he/him and they/them pronouns in the webcomic, they are specifically a non-binary genderfluid mephitine, and in an official capacity, I have, do, and will refer to them with gender-neutral terminology.

IT’S-A HER!!!

Uploaded January 16, 2025. I love Princess Daisy, and so do Gilda Grime and Margo Hynde. And when I saw Daisy in the footage of the new Mario Kart game (which we know now to be called Mario Kart World) in the reveal trailer for the Switch 2, I knew I had to draw Gilda and Margo pointing her out, Soyjaks pointing-style.

Tomboy Princess Nerdiness

Uploaded January 23, 2025. I was on a bit of a Daisy kick after the Switch 2 reveal, so I drew Gilda and Margo as best princess.

I look forward to seeing what the Switch 2 era has in terms of Daisy. The Switch era was damn good to us Daisy fans, from seeing her become a fighter in Smash Bros. to seeing her playable in the mainline 2D entry Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Here’s to more and better Daisy appearances in the ninth generation and beyond!

Wendy Wyler – Decades AU Template

Uploaded January 30, 2025, as the third entry to this series that has previously seen Gilda and Margo editions. If you’ve read my webcomic, you’d know the 1980s outfit is officially canon. The 1960s one was the most fun to think up; it’s perhaps a bit anachronistically masculine, but I think it’s still believable overall, and something I see Wendy sciuronally picking out as a 1960s outfit.

Technical Difficulties screens

Gilda Grime

"Gilda Grime – Technical Difficulties screen"A mock-technical difficulties screen I made featuring Gilda Grime, for use as a gag in my videos. VHS-filtered because of course it is, it's retro-lover Gilda Grime. And #NationalRetroDay. #OTOG

The Phoenix of Grunvale (@phoenixofgrunvale.bsky.social) 2025-02-27T20:34:48.016Z
Uploaded February 27, 2025. Aside from the stock footage from The Top 10 Best Simpsons Memes, this was the first bit of visuals made for the Strange Magic review.

Wendy Wyler

"Wendy Wyler – Technical Difficulties screen"Because I knew it'd look cheap if I only used one, I made four different Technical Difficulties gags for the Strange Magic video. I've already posted the Gilda one, so first, here's Wendy's. #OTOG

Uploaded… along with the Strange Magic review on March 29, 2025. Ignore what the Bluesky post says.

I imagine that the most embarrassing injury a rodent could have, is getting their teeth knocked out… and that’s why I drew Wendy in such a scenario for her TD screen.

April Lowry

"April Lowry – Technical Difficulties screen"April's technical difficulties screen was a bit deeper into the video than Gilda's and Wendy's, coming about five minutes later. I decided to go with a thrown tomato because of the myth of it dulling skunk stench. #OTOG

The Phoenix of Grunvale (@phoenixofgrunvale.bsky.social) 2025-04-01T18:19:22.754Z
Uploaded along with the Strange Magic review on March 29, 2025. This TD screen is inspired by the (debunked) stench-dulling properties of tomatoes. I like how this splattering came out, both the deformation of the tomato and the splat shape.

Margo Hynde

"Margo Hynde – Technical Difficulties screen"Margo's TD screen was supposed to be used for the post-credits scene, but I scrapped it because I didn't feel my original vision for it worked. But I still made and rendered a version, and intend to use it… sometime. #OTOG

The Phoenix of Grunvale (@phoenixofgrunvale.bsky.social) 2025-04-01T18:21:46.640Z
Uploaded April 1, 2025. This was intended for the post-credits scene of the Strange Magic review, but after I decided to retool it, this iteration of the gag ended up getting the axe. But I figure, if three of the Tetrad get their own version seen, the other one should too. So here’s Margo’s version!

And that’s all for now. Chapter VI is coming soon, as is my next video. And I’ll show both here when they’re uploaded. But until that time, take care, stay safe, be good to each other, reject Trump’s attempts to bring the world down… and have a good one.

Stormy’s Art Roundup – Summer 2024

I apologize for my lack of updates since May. I had been incredibly busy building my YouTube this summer, and most of my art productivity from June to September was dedicated to the three videos I put out during those months. I did still squeeze some in some art in my free time, however. But before I get to those, I feel I should cross-promote my YouTube account. Both because they too represent my work (in fact, nowadays, the majority of it), and also so any potential clients who want to hire me as a video editor can be confident they’re getting quality work out of me.

And yes, the thumbnails for the videos are my own creation, too.

Mega Man’s Gloriously Stupid Furry Episode – An Analysis of ‘Curse of the Lion Men’

Uploaded June 15, 2024. This episode of the blue bomber’s Saturday morning cartoon spin-off deliberately disobeyed all common sense.

As a fan of the classic Mega Man video game series, I’m of course familiar with the cartoon the creators of Scooby-Doo made out of it in the mid-1990s. Its most infamous episode is ‘Curse of the Lion Men’, a concoction of a nonsensical story and cheap animation, that together results in a major source of ridicule from the franchise’s fanbase, and one of my personal favorite so-bad-it’s-good pieces of media.

This is my most popular video on YouTube as of this blog post, as well as the one I’m most proud of.

The Top 10 Best Simpsons Memes

Uploaded July 27, 2024, a date intentionally chosen to mark the 17th anniversary of The Simpsons Movie. This is a top 10 list counting down what I feel are the best memes to come out of The Simpsons. A dank meme embiggens the normiest town, heheh.

High Seas Havoc is a Phoque-ing Blatant Sonic Knockoff

Uploaded September 19, 2024. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for this seal in this mascot platformer from the developers of BurgerTime and Joe & Mac.

This is the first entry in a series called ‘Arcade-ological Discoveries’, where I talk about retro games that aren’t as talked about as their more popular contemporaries. I chose High Seas Havoc to kick off the series, as I thought its status as a Sonic clone and its bizarre connection to the bootleg video game development scene, made it a worthy candidate for discussion.

Now with those out of the way, here’s the artwork I managed to squeeze in during the months I was working on these videos.

The Oddball Tetrad – Magical Girl Forms

Gilda Grime (Verde Ghiacciata)

Margo Hynde (Blu Affamata)

Wendy Wyler (Viola Elettrica)

April Lowry (Turchese Rovente)

Uploaded June 18th (Gilda), 20th (Margo), 23rd (Wendy), and 30th (April), 2024. I drew these in preparation for 2024’s Art Fight, expecting to compete on team Seafoam. However, due to being busy with the Simpsons video, which I gave myself a deadline to upload by the end of July, I ended up not participating.

These artworks are an expansion on the idea of the Tetrad performing together as a 1960s-style girl group, with their stage selves imagined as magical girl-type superheroes, like from Sailor Moon or Miraculous Ladybug. In-universe, it’s Gilda who imagines them this way, hence the Itacavallian/Italian names. She often writes stories and draws comics of them as these alter-egos, initially with herself/Verde Ghiaccata as the lone hero, and later with her leading the rest of the magical girl Tetrad after meeting them.

And yes, Margo/Blu Affamata’s power is sandwich ingredient summoning. Margo may be Gilda’s friend, but she’s also rich. And someone who’s wealthy and has a non-joke superpower, well, that’s too broken.

June Chen in: Solving the Puzzle

Uploaded June 3, 2024. Another piece of TGAMM fanart, featuring June Chen after vandalizing a negative symbol for autistics, the puzzle piece, with a positive one, the golden infinity. Around the time I drew this, I ordered a plush of her whose proceeds went to an autism advocacy group. Said plush finally arrived late in September, and I love it. So nice to finally have a plush of a character I share my condition with.

A Visual Guide to the Pride Flag

Uploaded June 5, 2024. A more graphic design-oriented piece from me, showing what all the colors of the most recent revision of the LGBTQ+ pride flag mean. Featuring my Englishman’s Teeth font, of course!

Gladys Fioletowski – Lutrine Librarian

Uploaded June 10, 2024. I realized I hadn’t created a lutrine character yet, so I figured I would finally get to that, and created this sow. Her name is Gladys Fioletowski, and she’s a Porpolish/Polish-descended librarian who works as the librarian at Marc Davis Junior High. Also one of the few staff members at MDJH that Margo has any respect for.

As it was Pride Month at the time I thought up this character, let me just say now that, yes, I did envision her as a transgender sow. Suck it, you Trump-loving snowflakes.

Vicky’s Realization

Uploaded June 28, 2024. Seeing politicians not caring about climate change and instead funding Benjamin Netanyahu’s genocide of Arabs (especially Palestinians), inspired me to draw this piece featuring Margo’s cousins, Vicky and Ellen Ketcham. If you’re wondering why they’re dressed as lawyers, it’s because they like role-playing as them. They’re also part of the Eric Larson Middle School mock trial club, and like to watch courtroom movies together. Are they too young for them? Their aunt Sally doesn’t think so. After all, she’s a lawyer herself, and was about their age when she first saw My Cousin Vinny. She welcomes another generation of Ketcham does getting into the legal system.

This artwork is featured in the closing credits of The Top 10 Best Simpsons Memes video, linked above.

Princess Daisy – Game Boy-Style Redraw

Uploaded September 15, 2024. Every other Mario fan was drawing Princess Peach in the NES color palette, and I drew the superior princess in the Game Boy’s grayscale, at four times the resolution of her original sprite. She came out a bit Peanuts-looking due to me sticking to the original proportions, but I still feel I captured her spunky tomboyishness.

I can’t stress enough how big a fan I am of Daisy. She was my reason for being excited for Smash Ultimate and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, even more so than every character from the series being playable in the former and the Wonder effects of the latter. Any game Daisy is in, she is my main.

The Oddball Tetrad & Baseball Pentad – Low-Budget 1970s Style

I am admittedly cheating a bit here; the Oddball Tetrad one was originally uploaded to Twitter on September 13, 2023. However, the Baseball Pentad one was uploaded a year and three days later, September 16, 2024. Last year in September, the big art trend was to draw the two characters from the 1970 ‘Special Barbie Weekend’ ad in one’s own style, or other characters in the ad’s art style. I’ve seen similar art styles on cartoons of the time such as School House Rock, so I decided to call the style the ‘low-budget 1970s style’, and draw the Tetrad in said style.

I always wanted to draw another artwork in the style, but never got around to it until a year later, when I decided to draw another group of my characters, Wendy’s sister Nicole and her friend group, the ‘Baseball Pentad’. The Tetrad only required a 2.35:1 aspect ratio for the canvas, but the Pentad, due to depicting one character more, required a 3:1 canvas.

Both of these artworks are featured in the end credits of the High Seas Havoc review, linked above. As this is Margo’s in-universe art style, said video also features an animation of herself drawn this way.

And that’s all for now. Hopefully I can find time to make more artwork, and thus a post such as this one. Chapter V is almost complete at the time of me writing this blog post; it will be uploaded when finished, and to coincide with whatever video I complete around the same time. But until that time… take care, stay safe, be good to each other, keep AI out of the creative process, stand in solidarity with the animators and video game voice actors, and have a good one.
