Watch Out Where The Huskies Go…

Original DA Upload Date: December 20, 2019

Yeah, Gilda ain’t gonna fall for that, Margo. Not after eleven years of living with abusive brothers that pranked her that same way.

—–

This is just a triple-panel comic I drew to celebrate the official start of Winter. Which is actually, technically tomorrow, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to be a day early. Especially considering my nostalgia for snow.

You see, I live in a part of the US, that pretty much only experiences Winter in name only. Jacksonville, FL does frequently see days in the 50s Fahrenheit this time of year, but that’s it. Below-freezing temperatures and especially snow are almost unheard of. New York, on the other hand, is on the other extreme. In New York, I’ve experienced Winter days with temperatures measured in the negative degrees Fahrenheit, and snow measured in feet. And of course, in the Grunvaliverse, the town of Grunvale, being an upstate New Pork town based on my own hometown of Guilderland, NY, would experience those freezing temperatures and high snows. Hell, where I am writing the web novel so far, a big blizzard is coming into town.

But enough about the goings on of the big snowstorm in the web novel, let’s talk about the goings on of the big snowstorm in this comic!

Snow is pretty easy to draw. I can see why Norm of the North and Arctic Dogs chose snowy settings for their movies, because at the beginner level (or in those movies’ cases, the idiot level), snow doesn’t take much effort at all to draw or render. However, I’m not a beginner. So I actually put some effort into giving the snow texture, more than just solid white. It’s mostly compact, with just a little bit of flakiness at its top. Just like actual snow. To give a feel of the flow of time throughout the comic, I made sure to have the clouds rolling in the background, and the snow interface randomized in each panel. Compare each panel; the clouds and snow are different in each. That’s attention to detail for ya.

As for the outfits the girls are wearing here, I actually drew concept art of Gilda’s winter clothes all the way back last year, but only now did I have an opportunity to draw it again. Unlike a lot of old Grunvale elements I’ve since scrapped, I found the outfit good enough to keep. It fits Gilda well. Margo’s outfit, on the other hand, is entirely new. The parka was inspired by that of Kenny McCormick, as well as Ronnie Anne Santiago, both her usual hoodie, and the parka we’ve seen her wear in official artwork. Also, as this is set in the cold, I decided to show Gilda and Margo getting frostnip, which is shown here by the pink of their cheeks, noses and ears (all of which are some of the most suspectible to frostbite).

A Twitter friend of mine, AnimatedAntic, had trouble reading Margo’s dialogue, due to the snowy interface obscuring the speech bubbles. I can understand the criticism, however, I do have an explanation as to why I did the speech bubbles the way I did. That being, I thought it would look awkward having Gilda and Margo standing behind the interface, but their speech bubbles appearing in front of it. I did experiment with the snow turning transparent over the speech bubble, but it just looked awkward to me, so I decided to just have all the snow be opaque instead. Probably not the best idea in practice, but I tend to think in terms of how things would actually appear. And the way I was thinking, if a speech bubble were to actually appear above Gilda and Margo, it would be obscured by the snow. For those having trouble reading the speech bubble, Margo’s saying:

“Hey, look, Gilda! Lemon snow! Don’t you wanna try it? I mean, you do like lemons, don’t ya?”

Anyways, that’ll be all for this piece. Happy Winter, everyone!

Interdimensional Celebration (600 Twitter Followers)

Original DA upload date: November 29, 2019

Grunvale’s oddball tetrad, and the fiery redhead of the Korvat Isles, celebrate yet another hundred-follower milestone breached on Twitter.

—–

Wow… 600 followers. And to think that not much longer than a year ago, I’d just crossed 300 followers and thought it was a huge milestone (yeah, I know, that artwork was specifically celebrating 300 DA watchers, but I crossed 300 followers on Twitter around the same time, so looking back, I see that artwork as fainting two Magcargo with one Muddy Water). And just in the span of this year, I’ve crossed 400 and 500. And now, as of last night, I’ve broken the barrier of 600… it still feels surreal. All I can say about that, to everyone who finds my work awesome enough to warrant a follow, is, well, thank you. Thank you all. You’re all awesome. Here’s to 700 and beyond!

Now to the artwork itself… HOO BOY. Get comfortable, there’s a lot to unpack here.

I knew as the milestone was approaching that I wanted all five of my most prominent characters (Gilda Grime, Margo Hynde, Wendy Wyler, April Lowry and Rowan Rudyard) in this piece together, and I wanted them all in their formal attire. It’s a special occasion, after all. And nothing says special occasion like giant groups of characters gathered together, dressed to impressed and ready to celebrate! So that’s what I went with.

Of course, Gilda’s in her 40s-style yellow dress, and Margo’s in her sequined yellow dress. That was a given right from the time I conceived the idea. Fun fact; back at the beginning of this year, I was honestly considering making the blue dress Margo wore back on Valentine’s Day her main formal outfit, over the yellow one she’s had since the beginning. But I had a change of heart after I realized my followers like the yellow dress enough to make fanart of it… which in turn led to me realizing that it’s much more fitting for Margo than the blue one. I totally see the oddball tetrad going to a formal event together, which Gilda wears her yellow dress to… and then she gets angry at Margo once she sees that she’s also wearing yellow, just to troll her. Hell, it’s in character for both of them to react just like that in that kind of scenario.

Wendy’s formal outfit is basically an updated version of the dress she wore when she danced with Randy. Most major differences here is that she’s wearing diamond jewelry instead of pearls and gold hoops, and she has a beret. I did consider at one point giving her dark purple gloves (the same color as her beret and heels), but I abandoned the idea. As for April, since she made Gilda’s yellow dress, I figured it’d make sense for hers to have the same basic design (puffy shoulders, lace trim), but with a different color, of course. So that’s what I went with. That red is the same red as the polo her brotheroften wears.

And as for Rowan, I did experiment with drawing her in a dress, but after drawing her in a tuxedo in my sketchbook, I found that the latter fit her personality better, so I went with that. Whenever I draw Rowan in a formal situation in Korvat Isles, she’ll be wearing this tux. She’s not like Margo where she just has a regular disdain for dresses, she hates them so much that it doesn’t even register as an option to her. Also, because Korvat Isles is set in a completely different universe from Grunvale, and also because it involves magic, I decided to have her coming through a portal from the Korvativerse, and have her use a potion to spell out the word ‘FOLLOWERS’ instead of hold up a sign. Which makes April’s nervous face all the more fitting.

The scenery was fun to figure out how to execute. I loved the carpet texture (without beveling) so much, I decided to save it as a PNG for future reference. Considering this is a piece celebrating a milestone, I decided to give the scenery the colors of precious metals. The carpet is gold, the wall is silver, and the baseboard is bronze. All and all, this was a fun piece to work on…

…and you very nearly did not get to see it!

Immediately after finishing this artwork, I decided to clean out some old PSDs in ArtStudio Pro. And when I went to the Photos app shortly after, I saw, much to my horror, that I forgot to export this. So I immediately rushed back to the ASP app… where much to my relief, the PSD for this file (which was a whopping 132.5MB, in case you’re wondering) was spared, and still ready to be exported. Phew! Could you imagine if I deleted this by mistake? This took me nearly six hours, and plus, this is one of the works I’m doing for the college assignment. That would have been a nightmare if I deleted it by mistake!

Thankfully, it was not. You know that carpet texture I talked about above? That too still had yet to be exported, and was one of the layers of the PSD. So this artwork, literally owes its existence to that texture. The gold carpet these girls stand on, is holy ground.

And that’s all I have to say about this artwork. Thanks again, everyone, for helping me reach this milestone. As for this artwork, post in the comments below what you think!

Shoppin’ Around

Original DA upload date: August 24, 2019

Gilda and April are out on a shopping trip the mall, and the procyonine geek, at her friend’s suggestion, has bought herself a pair of white gloves, which she has instantly fell in love with.

—–

April Lowry doesn’t just like wearing gloves to make a feminine fashion statement. She also wears them because of her OCD; she hates getting her hands dirty. But only August knows this. When anyone else asks her, the only reason she gives is ”cause dey’re pretteh, a’right?’ or something similar.

As for Gilda Grime, considering her personality as a retro geek, and also, to quote The Narrator, ‘gloves been out of mainstream, non-winter fashion for like 50 years, unless you’re a cartoon character or Michael Jackson‘, I also see her as the kind of individual who’d wear gloves on (formal) occasion (which, to be fair, she does). In fact, Gilda herself has a design deeply rooted in classic/retro cartoons. Her outfit is inspired by that of characters such as Little Audrey (the character on which Audrey from Harvey Street Kids is based) and Luan Loud (who comes from a franchise inspired by comic strips from yesteryear), and Grunvale‘s art style is inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog, which itself is inspired by that of the 1930s Mickey Mouse cartoons. Not to mention that Gilda’s Fleischer-style counterpart, ‘Li’l Gilda’, always wears white four-digit gloves, in keeping with the cliches of cartoons of the era. With all that in mind, I don’t think the regular, ZP-51498 Gilda would mind wearing gloves at all.

Anyhoo, back to the subject matter, this is supposed to be set shortly after April gives Gilda that yellow dress. April originally made the dress for herself to wear, but when she found that it didn’t fit her, she planned to throw it out. She had a change of heart, however, when she found that the dress fit Gilda perfectly. The way I pictured this work, this shopping trip was to buy accessories to wear with their outfits. Those white gloves are the same gloves Gilda wears with her dress.

Now to the art itself… and boy is there a story behind it.

While I didn’t have any serious mishaps on my part like with Kyle’s birthday present, it was ASP itself that was giving me issues this time. ArtStudio Pro does tend to crash on me when I do certain complex things with it, like inpainting or a massive (100px+) blur, but those are usually by accident, and only happens once during the drawing process, if at all. This time though, the app crashed… I’d like to say five times. Five times! As I was just doing what I normally do! If I had to guess, I’d say that it was the background that was giving me issues. It’s got skewing and gradients going on with the walls, beveling with the bush, the flowers were created by making a bunch of thick strokes with a generated stroke effect… there’s a lot of complex stuff going on in the background, is what I’m trying to say. If that was what overloaded the app, I wouldn’t be surprised.

But even with all the issues it caused me… I’m proud of how it turned out. It even inspired me to draw a few experiments in ASP, to see how far I could push the 3D illusion using only the tools present in the app. You’ll… be seeing those here in the next few days.

And that’s all for this one. Post in the comments below what you think of this!

…hey, what’s that graffiti on the wall?

To add to that paragraph about Gilda’s retro inspirations, her retro geek personality is inspired by how I was in my youth, and still am today, albeit to a somewhat lesser extent. I still love retro music and retro video games just like Gilda, but as a teenager, I wanted to look retro too, just as Gilda does Grunvale. I even grew out long, 60s/70s style sideburns, like those of Ray Dorset and Joe Cocker. I thought they looked cool then. I know better now.

April Gets Cool

Original DA upload date: October 10, 2019

The fourth of twelve of this series, and the last featuring one of the Grunvale girls as the opposite archetype. Here’s what April Lowry would look like as a tomboy!

—–

No, April still doesn’t have freckles. The way I imagined this piece, April drew the freckles on herself with a brow pencil, hence why they’re brown instead of black like those of the other three main Grunvale girls. Also, yes, underneath the heavy blush, that is how April’s rosy complexion naturally looks. I mean, she’s August’s twin, it only makes sense.

Not much else to say about this one, other than I used a motion blur effect to get the impression of movement, like this was a photo taken right as April was dropping da mic. Also, as a nod to April being LGBT, I decided to have her wearing a gay pride pin and lesbian pride pin on her jacket. Both were achieved with a rendered stroke effect for the border, and double-beveling for depth. Originally had her just wearing the rainbow flag pin, but a Twitter friend of mine, ‘FrickEpic’, suggested that I also have her wearing a lesbian pride pin. Took some digging to figure out what the lesbian pride flag looks like, there’s… a lot of different versions of it. But the one shown here seems to be the most current and accepted version, so I decided to include it.

And that’s all for this one. Post below what you think. Next up is… I guess Fashionista Gilda. See you then.

Wendy Braces Herself

Original DA upload date: October 3, 2019

Wendy’s turn to be made over into the… opposite archetype (I consider ‘geek’ and ‘punk’ to be opposites in the archetype quartet)!

—–

In case any of you have been wanting to see Wendy Wyler with both her eyes exposed, here you go! Figured since she’s supposed to look nerdy here, it’d be fitting to give her barrettes, which meant I had to draw both her eyes, since… well, that’s kind of how barrettes work. Also, that sweater and those braces (for the sake of this artwork, they’re fake… but I might make an AU version where she is the geek of the girls, and the braces are real) look adorable on Wendy. And she looks adorable as a nerd. That sweater is now a canonical part of her wardrobe.

Onto the art itself!

I was originally gonna have Wendy showing her natural blonde hair color in this piece, but since it’s been a while since I drew her and I thought she’d look unrecognizable, I decided to have her depicted with her more recognizable, black-and-fuschia-dyed hair instead. The background was traced from the Punk Gilda piece, but given improved textures and slightly resized, to a perspective more fitting for Wendy (who is an inch shorter than Gilda). The door asset, however, is the same as from the aforementioned piece. This is supposed to be… well, Wendy’s sister’s house. The house in Hatcherwood where she goes on the nights she practices with her band, to get away from her father.

Also, yes, Wendy has freckles on her nose now, as well as on her cheeks. It was something I decided on in the gap between artworks featuring her; I gave her those additional freckles so that she looks more like an 11-year-old (which she is), and less like a tiny teenager.

Anyhoo, that’s all for this one. One more Grunvale girl to draw as the opposite archetype, and I think you know who it is. And then there’ll be the other eight works to draw for this series.

Margo in Vibrantly Violent Violet

Original DA upload date: October 1, 2019

I only did this for the archetype-swap series (this is Fashionista Margo); this’ll be the last ‘Margo in a dress’ artwork for a while. I don’t want to run this running gag into the ground.

—–

Yeah, this is pretty much a regular thing that happens between the Hynde sisters. Molly likes forcing Margo into stereotypically girly stuff. Sometimes if she wants to have some ‘sisterly bonding’, sometimes when a formal or semiformal event comes up, sometimes just to see how an outfit will looks on her… but her favorite way of getting Margo to dress girly, is if the tomboy loses a bet. She’s even once used Margo as a model for a live makeup tutorial, after the one and only time she managed to beat her at Mario Kart (they were playing Mario Kart 64 and Margo failed the Rainbow Road shortcut on the final lap). Molly does sometimes force Margo into other stereotypically girly things, like dancing to dance-pop music or watching romance flicks. But getting her into dresses is her preferred way of tormenting her sister.

And yes, Margo does the same thing when Molly loses a bet; she likes forcing tomboyish stuff (like getting dirty, watching action flicks, going makeup-free, etc.) onto her.

Now to the artwork itself!

There isn’t really much to cover here, but I will talk about how I did Margo’s jewelry. For the necklace, I started with a single circle with a blurred bevel and a rendered stroke effect, then duplicated it, resized the duplicates, arranged all the circles in an arc (while rotating the beads to keeping the lighting consistent), then lastly, I posterized the circles so that they fit better with the 2D environment. As for the earrings, I did something similar to how I did Sparkles’ head in The Sparkling Dimension; I beveled an octagon on a temporary layer, then selected the resulting colors of its edges and matched them to the edges of the gemstones. I’m really getting the hang of ArtStudio Pro’s 3D capabilities.

Anyhoo, that’s all for this one. Geek Wendy is next, and it’ll definitely be an interesting one to work on.

Gilda Embraces the Darkness

Original DA upload date: September 22, 2019

Wendy seems to have given her procyonine friend a makeover.

—–

TV Tropes has noted before that there are some common tropes for female characters, especially when they come in groups. When it comes to the duo, there’s the the tomboy and girly girl (for example, Lana and Lola Loud), and in a trio, there’s the beauty, the brains and the brawn (for example, Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup). Recently, I’ve thought of a similar trope for a quartet: the geek, the tomboy, the punk and the fashionista. Yeah, you see where I’m going with this; it’s based on the main female characters of Grunvale. Gilda Grime being the geek, Margo Hynde being the tomboy, Wendy Wyler being the punk, and April Lowry being the fashionista.

Recently, I had the urge to draw Gilda as an emo girl (which I see as counting under Wendy’s ‘punk’ type. It’s an umbrella), and this was the result. Never thought I’d be using the color scheme for Gilda’s powdered face (seen in her vampire costume) again, but I have the swatches saved in ASP, so at least I got another chance to put them to good use. Wait, are emos supposed to smile? Well, this one does. Because Gilda can’t not be adorable for even a second.

Oh, and yes, I do plan to make a series out of this. The four main females of Grunvale, as the other character types in the archetype quartet I’ve thought up. Considering this is Punk Gilda, that means there’s left to do: Tomboy GildaFashionista GildaGeek MargoPunk MargoFashionista MargoGeek WendyTomboy WendyFashionista WendyGeek AprilTomboy April and Punk April. This… this’ll be fun to do. It’ll make for a fun project to do into October.

It Oughta Be a Grime For a Cake to Be This Sweet!

Original DA upload date: October 19, 2019Description below updated November 21, 2022.

Now that I got my little Casagrandes rant over with… time to begin round 2 of the archetype mixups1, with Fashionista Gilda!

1 This ended up being the only entry into round 2 of said archetype mix-ups.

Now that I think of it, Gilda’s technically a fashionista already. It’s just downplayed in comparison to her geekiness. She’s invested in a lot of retro-inspired outfits to fit her retro-geek personality, like the vintage 80s acid-wash hand-me-downs from her mother Gretchen2, and the 80s-style shoulder-padded suit you see her wearing in my avatar3. Even Galarian Zigilda has her Pokemon counterpart in 70s-inspired garb. And now I have her dressed here in 50s-style attire (Gigi Grime is a completely separate 1950s AU version of Gilda, not the ZP-51498 Gilda we all know and love), with an aesthetic for the background to match!

2 Her name is Jessica now. Jessica Lois Grime. Tying into her father’s love of science fiction stories and her mother’s love of fantasy stories.

3 The avatar of my old DeviantArt account.

Hey, the 1980s had as much nostalgia for the 50s and 60s as we have today for the 80s and 90s. Being such an 80s geek, of course the decade’s love for the 50s would rub off on Gilda from time to time. Headcanon, she was listening to Stray Cats’ Built For Speed as she was baking that cake.

When I saw that Kyleboy21 drew his Judy Herrison in a ladybug-print dress, I decided to use his little sketch as inspiration for this work. In fact, I decided to take it a step further; to keep with the ladybug theme, I gave her red and black accessories (red for the flower and the earrings, black for the gloves and the shoes), as well as antenna-style bangs4. The latter of which are also a nod to Luan Loud, one of the inspirations behind Gilda’s design. When I saw just how much I cranked up the 50s aesthetic with Gilda’s outfit, I decided to give the same period vibe to her surroundings as well, with pastel colors for the walls, and a checkerboard pattern for the floor. All the colors you see on the walls and floors (aside from that rocky floor in the kitchen) are based on colors I’ve seen used in patterns both from and inspired by the 1950s.

4 Haha, looking back, that was a cute design choice.

Also, the cake is lemon-flavored. Why? Because of course it is, Gilda made it. If Gilda makes something delicious, you can bet there’s something citrus in it.

And that’s all for this one. Post in the comments below what you think of this!

Inspiration Imitating Art Imitating Inspiration

Original DA upload date: November 9, 2019. Any references to ‘today’ refer to that date.

Gilda Grime (Loud House/Casagrandes-style version) goes twinning with Luan Loud, one of the characters who inspired her design.

—–

After mY nAmE iS rOnNiE aNnE, my first true Loud House/Casagrandes fanart in over a year and a half, proved to be one of my most successful artworks so far this year, I felt the inspiration to draw some more fanart of the show, or at least something drawn in its art style. But I didn’t know what to do, until watching one of the four segments that aired today, ‘A Pimple Problem’. Now, before I start talking about this artwork, what did I think of the segment?

Well, if you saw on Twitter today, I rated the segment a C. After giving it a second watch before uploading this piece, however, I will admit that rating is a bit harsh. The comedy is on point, some of the various ways Luan tries to hide her pimple are creative, and Benny proves, once again, that he is the perfect love interest for the comedian of the Loud family. Also, on a side note, between this, ClarenceThe Goldbergs and the Kim Possible movie, I get the feeling that Hollywood is looking to cast Sean Giambrone as the geeky, awkward guy in any piece of media with that kind of character. And this is one case of typecasting I can get behind, because he plays these roles well.

But with all this said, do I think ‘A Pimple Problem’ is an A-tier segment? No. No, I don’t. While it does have what I mentioned going for it, the story degrades into an idiot plot in its second half… the Luan x Benny bits. You know, the reason this segment was so anticipated by the fanbase. How Benny is unable to realize something is up with Luan is just baffling, especially when it gets to the chess scene, where she literally resorts to using a newspaper and a tree branch. Not to mention that the moral of the segment can be predicted just by reading the synopsis.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is, I think I may have let myself down with this segment. ‘A Pimple Problem’ was my most hyped segment of today, and yet what I got out of it was a predictable story that ends up turning into an idiot plot. But, like I said, it still has the positive aspects I mentioned going for it. So let me retract my earlier grade. It’s not a C, it’s… a B-, I guess. Same as its sister ‘Stall Monitor’, which I found funnier, but also simultaneously an even worse idiot plot. And while we’re on the subject, on the Casagrandes side of things, we got ‘The Horror-Scope’, which is an easy contender for one of the best segments of the first season (plus the TLH season 4 arc), and ‘Snack Pact’, which further solidified Sergio as my favorite of the Casagrande family. Overall, pretty good batch of segments we got today, with The Casagrandes coming out on top for me.

Anyhoo, during ‘A Pimple Problem’, we finally got to see what Luan looks like with her hair completely down, albeit for only about three seconds. And funny enough, her hair looks almost exactly how I used to draw Gilda Grime’s when she was dressed in her 80s outfit. That, as well as the fact that Luan Loud is one of the inspirations behind Gilda’s design, is what inspired me to draw this piece you see here, of Gilda pointing out how similar Luan’s hair looks to her own former 80s-style ‘do.

I’ve actually had linework for a drawing of Gilda’s 1980s outfit done in the TLH/Casagrandes style (traced from the artwork I commissioned from vinzound a while back) saved in ASP for months, and I planned to use that asset here. However, after pasting it into the PSD, I found that the outlines were way too thick compared to Luan’s, so I had to trace out a new one. In the original asset, Gilda’s hair was traced from that of the receptionist from ‘Tripped!’. However, here, I decided to trace the bottom part from Lucy’s outfit from ‘Back in Black’ that her sisters called ‘too poofy’, while the top part was copied from Luan’s scrunchie-less hair. As for everything else, Gilda’s mouth and right hand were traced from Lynn, her and Luan’s denim jackets were traced from Luan’s winter jacket, and the earrings on both girls were traced from the aforementioned Lucy outfit.

Then there’s the background… my first real attempt at giving texture and lighting to trees that aren’t birches. It’s more of the same easy trick I usually use; the lighting was achieved with generated gradients, and the wooden texture was achieved with beveled dots. And, like on Galarian Zigilda, the gaps between the leaves in the trees were achieved with a grungy effect applied to an eraser, with light blue for the sky behind the asset for the ‘leaves’ (a random assortment of greens). Overall, about four hours of work went into this thing. Was it worth it? Absolutely.

And that’s all for this one. Post in the comments below what you think!

Before I upload the artwork of Fashionista Gilda, I had to get this piece out of the way, because some clowns think they’re being funny by telling the same joke over and over again.

I’ve come out of retirement from Loud House fanart, just so I could make this little work addressing a joke a lot of the TLH/Casagrandes fanbase… or hatebase (hard to tell at this point), has been making. You know the joke, the one comparing The Casagrandes to The Cleveland Show. It may have been funny back when the show was first announced last year, but it has long since stopped being funny. Even I haven’t used Joshscorcher’s “NOM NOM NOM MONEY TASTES GOOD” as much as the Loud House/Casagrandes fandom has used the Cleveland Show joke. In fact, after being subjected to the joke over and over again, it’s clear that people think the two shows are comparable just because they’re both spin-offs of highly successful shows, and focus on a family of color. Which is about as flimsy a comparison as you can make.

The Cleveland Show is for adults and composed of 22-minute episodes, and has a main cast entirely composed of dated and unfunny black stereotypes, as well as jokes that feel like table scraps even Family Guy didn’t want. The Casagrandes is for kids and made for 11-minute segments. It’s only an episode and a half in as I write this, and, thanks to the development the family has received through their appearances on The Loud House, they’re already more fleshed-out and likable than the Brown-Tubbs family ever were. I dare even say that the show has the potential to be better than The Loud House. Why?

Well, for one, The Casagrandes has a better sense of continuity than The Loud House. I’m not asking for BoJack Horseman continuity, but do the Loud family seriously not know Lucy likes popping up out of nowhere after eight years of her being alive? Whereas on The Casagrandes, it’d make sense for Ronnie Anne not to know stuff about the city or the Casagrandes’ traditions, since she’s relatively new to living in Great Lakes City (in fact, we’ve seen her family move there). And second, the Casagrande-Santiago family feels better connected than the Louds, they have a better sense of… you know, family. Not to mention the franchise has also already established a good sense of what the supporting cast, the apartment’s inhabitants and the Mercado’s customers, are like as characters. It’s four seasons into TLH, and we still don’t know much about characters like Girl Jordan, Mrs. Johnson or even Pop-Pop beyond some very basic things. And all of those characters have been around since season 1!

Also, Sid Chang is adorable. I already love her more than Clyde. She’s the Mabel Pines of TLH/Casagrandes.

Now to the art itself!

Not much to say here, other than Ronnie Anne’s asset was traced from her appearances in Save the Date and Relative Chaos. I did also attempt a paper pulp look with the background, but, while I do think it looks better than the transparent spray I used in my ArtStudio days, it… still needs work. It still looks more like something out of the real TLH than any other time I’ve drawn the characters from the show, though. Maybe I can do more in this style, it’s a fun style to work in.

Thanks for coming to my editorial, and why those jokes have become about as fresh as the water in Flint, Michigan*. Post in the comments below what you think of this!
