Stormy’s Art Roundup – April and May 2024

The month of April didn’t see me post enough artwork to feel it justified an entire blog post, but combined with May, which I post this blog post at the close of, I feel I have enough to show to all you who come by here! Let’s see what I’ve put out these past two months…

Sophie Rottle is Stink-Tier

Uploaded April 3, 2024, as a birthday present to fellow webcomic writer ChikoCheez of Can’t Buy Happiness, of which three of the major characters, Hazel McGee, Annie Anderson, and Sophie Rottle, appear here as a lupine/wolf, leporine/rabbit, and mephitine/skunk respectively.

You probably know the song the former two are singing here, it’s a pretty well-known staple of 1970s rock. But in case you didn’t, it’s “That Smell” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Which of course they’re singing to mock Sophie (an antagonist in CBH) for being a mephitine.

IHOP Gilda

Uploaded April 5. 2024. Based on Amy’s waitress outfit that was offered as an IHOP promotion recently. This artwork appeared at the end of my most recent video at the time of this blog post, “The Legitimacy of Art as Art – A Big City Greens Analysis“.

I have an alternate version with Gilda in a green dress on my Newgrounds post of this artwork.

Goin’ Out Swingin’

Uploaded April 21, 2024. Another Nicole x Holt artwork, exploring the idea of Nicole acting ‘mature’ around Holt, the more old-fashioned and ‘square’ of her two boyfriends. Holt likes a lot of things most 13-year-olds would consider boring, like jazz music and swing dancing. Does Nicole like those things? Well, she’d like experiencing them with her boyfriend. And that’s what they’re off to do here, decked out in 1940s attire as they head to jazz night at Marilyn Springsteen’s Retro Diner and Arcade.

I also have a black-and-white, 4:3 version of this artwork on my Newgrounds, for those that like their 1940s-aesthetic stuff looking like the films of the time.

Margo Hynde – Decades AU Template

Uploaded April 29, 2024, as a sequel to the earlier Gilda artwork. I’ve been using the 1980s one as my Twitter avatar lately. Despite the earrings and the bracelets, I imagine Margo would quite like the outfit, for its punkish rocker look, and the fact it includes Ray-Bans.

Also, yes, 2000s Margo is supposed to be doing the Soulja Boy dance. I don’t care that Soulja Boy sold counterfeit video game consoles, that dance was and is an iconic part of 2000s culture, and I have fond memories of dancing it myself. Also, it’s a case where I can separate the art from its artist.

Wendy’s Biggest Flan

Uploaded May 14, 2024 (my 26th birthday). I’ve written ficlets of Flannery crushing on Wendy, but hadn’t drawn an artwork of it before. This is my first artwork doing so. Also, this artwork was done as part of an art bandwagon on Twitter. Hence the return to a fresh pasta background for this piece.

Margo Gets Popsicle-ified

Uploaded May 21, 2024. This was done as part of an art jam my artist friend Cesar (JIMENOPOLIX) is running, inspired by those old character popsicles with the gumball eyes. I decided to draw Margo for this art jam, and mix things up with a gumball nose. Orange and peach… a very tropical combination, ain’t it? If a bit strange for a canonically Irish (Glirish) character. Ireland being a place that historically doesn’t get very hot.

And that’s all for this month. See you again… well, I’ll probably have chapter III of my webcomic done then, so probably then. And when I upload chapter IV, which is already completed. Follow this blog for more! And until next time, take care, stay safe, be good to each other, keep AI out of the creative process, and have a good one.

  1. Well done, I am glad you organized a post for these interesting orphans. They are now part of the canon, and most welcome.
